A host of golden daffodils!

I decided to take some photos around the farm today, we have over the years planted literally thousands of daffodils, they look so beautiful and will soon be gone. Most years not many guests seem to get to see them as people start coming to stay often when they are past their best (the daffodils not the guests!)

Looking across the pond towards the bank which runs down the side of the orchard which we planted with hundreds of daffodils.
From the farm looking down our daffodil lined drive to the road.

Sunrise to start the day!

The last few days have been glorious and after a keen frost this morning the sun started to rise to deliver another day just like summer and it's only March! I have been keeping away from the pond (lake if I am in Mrs Bucket mode!) so as not to disturb our Moorhens. I am lucky to be able to view them at times  as we have cctv on the pond but not on the nest. I don't know quite where they have it and I  don't want to frighten them at this critical time. I ventured down there today and to my surprise she was having a swim, she quickly dived underwater and was a while before she surfaced at the far side. I made a hasty retreat and left her to her peace and quiet.
Sunrise this morning.

Mrs Buckets lake is a pond really with Moorhens!

Today I just caught a glimpse of one of the Moorhens as she headed towards the pond to feed and swim. See her in the middle of the photo! The other photo is of our pond when all the lupins  and Iris are in bloom. It is teh first time we have had Moorhens as we only developed the pond  3 years ago but its amazing what wildlife come and use it. As a foot note I do like to call the pond a lake (aka Mrs Bucket!)

New venture a blog for Rains Farm!

Hi this blog is a new venture for me at Rains Farm Holidays. We have the most stunning setting deep in beautiful North Yorkshire close to the North York Moors, Heritage Coast and the Yorkshire Wolds. We have 7 acres and in the midst of glorious countryside. Birds and  wildlife  treat our farm as a little oasis in the midst of farmland. Its heaven! A doe hare had one of her leverets hidden amongst the flowers in a brick trough in our courtyard. That's amazing as they are so shy normally but they trust us and we them.
See this pic of the leveret. Hares have about 2 to 3 leverets in a litter but distribute them around the fields to keep them safe from predators, at least some may survive. Isn't he cute!

Thank you for reading this as it is my first post! Lorraine
